Ed, I have an old dewalt type 1 that I use as a back up for my ex-21--there is no way I will ever sell it--the type 1's were outstanding unit's--if you can get it , go for it-- JMHO  Richard aka thumbs

I'll be darned, craigslist is not a bad place to look. I found a Type 1 DW788 on there about a month ago, Phoenix area. So far, I have to say that I like it better than my Dremel 1680, I am very happy with it. Just had to do some minor adjustments and clean up and it was ready to go. I like the idea of raising the upper arm so I can bottom feed the blade without having to do like with the Drermel, unclamp the top of the blade and bend it outward away from the clamp until there is enough room to bottom feed the blade. I plan to keep both though, just never know when a second saw will be needed or usful.
What I like about the Dremel is the vacuum dust port connection. That really keeps the saw dust down. I would like to figure some way to make a saw dust collector DW788, any ideas out there?

Thanks, looks like a plan to me. I don't have a dust collecting system, just a shop vac that is loud. I am going to put it outside the work area and run the hose thru the wall to cut down on noise. Do you know of a way to eleminate the static build up in a shop vac hose?

Run a bare copper wire inside the hose or tape it to the out side of the hose. Attach the wire to your saw on one end and to a ground on the other end. Most shop vacs are not grounded so you need to attach the wire to something metal.

The owner is jerking me around a bit. Seems he can not be home when I can get there, 1 hour drive from my place.
I am starting to feel like he might be having seller's remorse and thinking he went too low on his asking price and is stalling to let the listing run out so he can ask more.
We will be talking again this afternoon and maybe make the trip soon.
If it runs as good as it looks I will grab it...but I will also take a good look around his place and see what kind of shop he has and the condition of his other tools. I find that to be a good indicator of what kind of care has been taken of anything.

  Keeping your first saw is a good idea.Having a second saw is useful for me.  I have two Hegners.  One has a 3/8" stroke and the other is set to a 3/4" stroke.  I use the short stroke one to do all my inlay work.  I have the table tilted to just the angel that works best for me.  I leave it set at that angel and use my other saw for all other work, especially when cutting thicker material.
