Dust Collection
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:25:56 pm »
A while back Steve had a post on his blog where someone rigged up some pvc pipe around their saw and hooked it to a shop- vac. I was wondering if someone could locate that in his archive for me. Thanks.

Hey Dustin, Here is a link for a post about my system. I have since moved the lower port to directly below the table tilt knob. It is hooked up to a dust collector but you should be able to use a shop vac: http://stevedgood.com/community/index.php?topic=8625.0

Ok thanks dgman. I am getting a shop- vac for xmas and planned on using it to keep the dust down on the saw.

Dustin, consider a cheap box fan with furnace filters on each side, it will pull the dust away from you, and it is way way way way quieter than a shop vac. Just my 2? worth, it works great for me, and it is cheap to make.

Yep, Dustin, just what you need is more dust blowing around.  Your idea of "collecting" is a good one.  Remember, if you have dust on your glasses you are breathing it and I don't think that is a good idea..Good Luck  :):)

I use a a shopvac to collect dust from the saw (top & bottom) or the drill press. The shopvac hose goes up through the false ceiling to the next room over, so I don't hear it. I have a remote control to turn it on/off. I also have the fan setup to catch anything the vac misses.
