Clyde, I have a 9" bench top band saw, I have had for years, I have never had any problems with it, just make sure it is a two wheel band saw and not a three wheel. Some of the earlier bench tops had three wheels to give you a deeper throat, but they were notorious for breaking blades. It will cut 2"to 3" wood, If you decide to buy it, the 1/8" blades will allow you to cut a sharp radius, but I found myself using a 3/8" blade with it. I also wanted to re-saw with it, mine has a less than six inch capacity, but the saw is way underpowered for re-sawing anyway, so I bought a 14" Craftsman Professional with a 9" re-saw capability and a 1hp motor. The 14" with a timber wolf blade 3/4" 3 tpi will re-saw a six inch hardwood board with no problem. I think I have rambled enough hope I helped.
