band saw boxes
« on: April 03, 2012, 09:59:27 pm »
posted boxes in gallery

These are the first ones I have made.
Put 2 of them in the YAA Gallery. priced them at $40 each, both sold first week.
Now they want more. Times are hard & they get 25%.

I can not see things & draw them ,I have to have a plan or picture to go by so most of my work looks a lot like other peoples. I try to change them some if I can.

Nice boxes!  Bandsaw boxes are fun, but they should call them "sanding boxes".  You spend much more time sanding than sawing.  Do you have the book, "The Ultimate Band Saw Box"?  It is a good one.

Very nice work, I was thinking about buying a band saw. Any suggestions as to what to buy. My budget will be less than $400.00.

I have a line on a used Delta 9 inch bandsaw for $100.00. I don't know much about bandsaws, any advice, is this a good price for a 9 inch, looks to be in good shape.

Nice job on the band saw boxes. I have been going to make some, and like you I need a pattern. I have a great book called Building Beautiful BOXES with your band saw by Louis Keener Ventura. the book has lots of great patterns. Clyde I answered your post in the coffee shop I hope it helps.

Cdrover-
I have several of the 9" delta bandsaws (not exactly sure it is the same one you are looking at)
The ones I have are practically bullet-proof, they are middle school proof. They have handled everything my middle school kids throw at them.
The only down side is that they don't have a huge amount of cutting room, I think it maxes out at about 4". Plenty of room for lots of stuff but if you want to make big bandsaw boxes, or re-saw you might look for a bigger one.

I paid $100 for a used one, so the price is probably ok.

Thanks msn. I too know what kids can do in shop class. My plans are not extensive just to cut eagle parts from 2x12 plank. A pattern I got from Miesel a few years ago. Maybe I should make one with my new ex21 before I purchase a bandsaw. Thanks for your input. ;)
