Trapped two wolves.
« on: February 29, 2012, 05:57:52 pm »
I just got my Wisconsin Trapper magazine and on the front cover is a coyote trapper with two wolves in the background.  He said when he got close he knew he had a problem.  He said the female grey weighed 70 lbs and and the grey weighed 45lbs.
He had immediately called a game warden to explain his dilemia.  They sent wildlife specialists from Rhinelander and they told him to not to disturb them.  They guesstimated the weight, checked their teeth, took measurements, drew blood, body temp and then put collars on them.  They monitored their recovery and they were released.  The trapper saw the black one and thought what is a dog doing way out here.
He said it was an unbelieveable experience and he managed to trap a coyote that day.

Just so you know I don't trap.  I recently passed the Wisconsin Trappers education program but after much planning followed by in depth debates I declined to put it to practical use.
I love all wildlife and am happy that these two have been educated so they don't step into steel again and lived to run again.  The trapper was using a double jaw trap which protects the animal from damage to the area of containment.  Animals are also trapped in this manner for monitoring and research of the wellbeing and health of the species.

I am overrun with coyotes so much that I could never have a small dog or cat again.
I love wildlife too but this many coyotes are TOO much of a good thing.
TRAPPERS WELCOME!
I'm from North Dakota

Judy your request is not far fetched.  There are long line trappers that live in their vehicles and trap from one state to another, but it depends on the price of the fur.  You could post that on Trapper websites.  Here different groups sponser coyote calling contests, but I have seen were they just leave them hanging on a clothesline and don't even take the hide.  I find that disrepectful and a waste.  A coyote can be delinquent when the wolf takes the blame.  I wouldn't want to be a coyote because trying to live up to the rules and expectations of so many people a coyote can't be a coyote and would hardly find time to eat.
