Movie: "Act of Valor"

The new movie Act of Valor hit thaters last night, the wife had to work last night so we went to the matinee today.  First of all for those that dont know me well I just retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.  One of the characters in the movie who they refer to as "Chief" is a real Chief in the Navy as an active duty SEAL that I happen to know.  This movie was actually thought up and began as a recruiting film, a major picture company bought the rights from the Bandito Brothers and turned into a motion picture.  The Navy SEALs in the movie are real active duty SEALs not Hollywood actors.  A lot of the gun fight scenes were filmed with live rounds.  The acting is a bit bad, but they are warriors not actors.  Most people dont understand what this movie is really about.  The real meaning of this movie is to show the public the real sacrifices these brave men make and the conditions they serve under in order to protect this country from our enemies.
These SEALs did not get paid for their roles in the movie, some have deployed to Afghanistan or they are currently deployed since this movie was filmed.  Thes eare menthat face the same ordeals we face everyday, and then they face the most dangerous men on earth and dont complain.  They defy the odds and ask nothing from us.  They deploy not knowing where they are going or when they will be home.  The SEALs names are not liste din the credits becaus ethey dont want recognition for what they did, instead the names of tehir fallen brothers since 9/11 are listed.
If there is one movie you must see this year Act of Valor is the one.

Greetings Chief.   As another retired military veteran, I am looking forward to seeing this film.  No theatre in town, so will most likely end up waiting for a DVD.

If you don't want to stand behind our military, feel free to stand in front of them.

When I heard about the film I was surprised the men wanted to do it. They really like to be more like 'shadows' than in the limelight.
When my stepson went into the Navy he considered becoming a Seal and after boot camp we asked if he was going on...His reply, "I could never make my mind and body do what they have to do to get that insignia!"
This is one film I will definitely see soon.

Another retiree here.  I fully support any effort to show what our troops have to go through to ensure the freedoms others!  I too will probably wait for DVD.  Haven't been to a movie theatre in ages.

I think everyone should support this movie, The Navy Seals are the elite of the elite!!
We all owe them an awful lot.

I wore both the Marine green and the Navy whites. The whites were voluntary and the Marine green was a Command decision.
Then I wore police blue.  I was true to my colors; Talk is cheap when your color blind.
I know clothes don't make the man but I was hopeful.

Wore the Dixie Cup and bell bottoms, later on a badge held up by a uniform of Army Pink. That's the strange Gray uniform I wore on patrol.

No the clothes don't make the man, but the man can make the uniform and those of us who shared it proud to have done so!
So many of our young service people are making me proud of their service to our country. Thanks to them all for their service!

I'm a 10 year submarine vet myself.  I worked on the SSBN's and unfortunately never got to see an SSGN upclose.  However, I thought it was really neat when the SSGN surfaced and took the SEAL on-board.  It was a real thrill to see what I had heard about in the fleet from some of my younger sailors and students while I was an instructor in KBay.

Chief every quote I've ever seen from those being awarded medals is the same as what you just said. "I was just doing my job!" I doubt anyone ever went out of their way to be a "HERO".
Except when you raised your right hand and swore to defend your country with your life. That makes every person who serves a HERO in my book, because you never know when you will have to back up your oath.
