Calling all Excalibur owners
« on: February 23, 2012, 02:18:04 pm »
I have been asked by Axminster Power Tools to ask my friends here to take a measurement of the North/South (Front/Back) movement on the blade of their Excalibur machines. They have been having trouble setting up the machines for us over here in the UK. We have been getting problems with excessive vibration, and my last machine has over 1/16" movement front to back which made cutting in tight areas awkward if not impossible. since then the vibration has come back with a vengence and it is rattling inside too.

If you could let me know the measurements I would be grateful, and will pass the measurements on to Axminster.
Thanks in advance.

I do not have an EX...YET!!!

But I would get the contactact info from "Seyco.com" and give that to the guys at Axminster first and foremost.

Ray is the most knowlegable person in the U.S. and can help them much better than trying to gather info second and third hand.

I have a suggestion:  Why don't you have them call Ray at Seyco?  He is quite knowledgeable about the saws and maybe he will be able to give them some guidance that will help them prepare their saws for delivery.  Just a thought . . . :)

My Ex 16 runs true.  No front to back movement.  I agree with Scrollgirl...  Ray at Seyco is the go to man.   If he can't help, there's no hope.

Hey Keefie , I agree get them to contact Ray at Seyco as he seems to be the man with the knowledge and should be able to point them in the right direction, it is good to know Axminster are still trying to resolve the issue...Pete

Zero front to back motion.  Ray at Seyco does the maintenance on mine.  The knocking and vibration has something to do with the position of the motor.  The counterbalance is out of position. It just needs rotated but I can't tell you which way.  Call Ray.

Keith. Since mine came back from Axminster, it is pretty much perfect, I have not had a full day on it yet as I have been fitting the staircase I made for my mate this week but will have a good go this weekend. I am surprised they have not renewed yours yet as they told me they were going through their entire stock of 125 saws looking for problems.

Iggy, they were going to, but the last EX16 in stock was damaged in box, there new stock isnt going to arrive till 30 April so they tuned up my old one to keep me going, this one's front to back movement is 100% less than one I just sent back, but there is still enough to make it bounce back and forth a bit in tight turns causing me to overcut he lines.

      Keith.
If you have a look at the user manual page 20, part nos. 48,49,50,51,52a and 55. They are clearly a means of adjusting the length of the top connecting rod. I guess this is the next course of action if twisting the motor round does not work. Why not ring Carl the workshop supervisor at Axminster on ext 2055 and ask him about it.      Ian.

Ian, that is one of the adjustments they carry out at Axminster, they remove the table and the covers, then turn motor shaft and counter ballance into correct position and check the lower operating linkage is parrallel to the lower arm using straight edge to along top of lower arm and linkage. If that needs to be adjusted then the motor shaft is clamped to stop it turning and the motor body is turned to adjust lower arm. once that is done the upper arm is adjusted to parrallel by use of the adjuster link in the top push rod. then everything is locked up. after that the motor can be adjusted to alter the front / rear movement of blade. (this doesn't affect the previous adjustment as it moves both linkages simultaneously)

Keefie. I'm sorry I didnt post sooner. Mine can in last Friday and didnt get to use it till the next day...I took a dial indy that reads in .030 thousands travel and it bottomed the needle out, but it wasnt bad off, just turned the motor as Steve did and got mine within .025 thousands.I'm thinkin Im gettin that much from the blade holder more than the linkage, but thats something I can live with , with the projects I be makin. Steve was right on this too...I didnt get vibs till I cranked it up wide open, and it wasnt nothing bad, but something you can feel, runnin mine at 3/4 speed it is so dang smooth.....
Hope you get all fixed soon. Good luck to ya......
