Has anyone ever used Tulipwood? if so, what's it like to cut?

Here is link that shows the wood with a description.  This is were I get scrap wood of all types for a dollar a pound.  I might see if I can get some on my next visit.

Just bought some last month but haven't used it yet was planning on seeing if I could make something this weekend. Will let you know how it went.

Has a good grain but tends to fade after it has been worked

I have used a fair amount of it.  I used it for the tulips on JGRs Tulip intarsia pattern.  It is hard, but sands and polishes up very well so the finishes look great.  I have never had a problem with it fading.  I typically do 3 hand rubbed coats of Old Master's clear gel varnish.

I use it for turned pens.  I think it is a little hard and dense for scrolling.  However, I only buy 3/4" - 1" pieces.

Thank you all for the info, i think i will have to get a bit of Tulipwood to try, i'm only looking at 1/4" so i guess that should cut OK, always looking for something a little unusual as i find exotic woods difficult to get hold of here in the UK.

Hi Ian,
I just tried cutting yesterday, Went ok my piece was about 1 inch thick.
Was the first time I used it. Like you I have difficulty getting exotic woods. Life on the other side of the channel(Netherlands). When I have finished I will post a photo.
