Trees

My wife thinks I'm insane! I'm working on items for next Christmas.

I made some of these trees a few years ago. My thought is to leave them unfinished and sell them cheap. The selling point will be to let the kids paint and decorate them. I'm thinking of using some small scraps to make tiny ornaments to decorate the trees (but not sure how that will work). I think I'll have a few decorated different ways to give customers some ideas. And one of the great things about these is, they can be taken apart and laid flat for storage. The three sizes shown are 6", 5", and 4". I stack six pieces of BB ply and cut. Takes about 30 minutes to cut and sand the pieces to make 6 trees.

I will put the pattern in the pattern area.

Comments or other ideas always welcome.

They look really nice.  I took a copy.  Last year in November and December I had some different thing I made for the kids to put toghter and color or paint.  I never sold one.  So I did it myself and sold a few.  Thats here in Iowa.  Thought I would just let you know.

I made some simple angel ornaments (from a pattern in one of my ornament books) and gave them to the grandkids teacher for them to decorate and take home.
from what the grandkids told me they enjoyed decorating them alot.

I have made puzzles in this shape. 1/2 of it cut into puzzle pieces.  The second piece held it together.  Did not sell all that well.

Thanks for the input. They are so easy to make and take so little time, I figure if none of them sell, I'll give them to the local library for their kids crafts. I had someone ask last year for some unfinished ornaments for the kids to decorate and I had none. I'll probably make a few of those too.

As for the third pattern, to make the 6" tree, I just enlarged the 5" pattern and resized the slots.

One tip for those who cut patterns like this one posted.

Since I plane and sand all of my own wood I don't always get the same or consistent thickness so I will trace the thickness on the pattern instead of measuring.

Since I plane and sand all of my own wood I don't always get the same or consistent thickness so I will trace the thickness on the pattern instead of measuring.

I've found the same true on some plywoods over the years (thickness may vary some when purchasing from different suppliers) learned to buy enough wood to complete each project from same supplier.
