Cochlear Implant information....

Here is a good 'basic' article on the CI for those interested. Each of the blue 'links' takes you to more information.
ON Jan. 20th I go back for my 3 month evaluation and check up and boy do I need it!
I am in a position now that all 4 of my programs need to be tweaked 'downward' since I am experiencing increased ability to hear and all 4 programs need to be adjusted. I have all 4 set with the volume and microphone sensitivity at almost the LOWEST possible levels so the internal programs need serious adjusting.
The 'outside world' is sure a noisy place!

I am happy to hear that you are doing well with your new hearing. Is there any way that they can get you in sooner if it is bothering you that much? Or can you shut it off altogether? I am just wondering.

Sheila...fortunately I have the other ear to fall back on. The hearing aid in that ear gives me pretty good hearing and I can turn the CI off and rely on only one ear. With the settings almost at minimum it is quite tolerable except in the loudest of environments, like the hockey arena with 800 screaming kids and adults or in a car with the windows open. It was very warm and windy the other day and I was taking a long walk and had to turn it off because of the 'wind noise'.
It is not a serious thing just annoying but in a GOOD way!
It means that my tired ol' brain has decided to get back in the 'hearing business' on the left side more quickly than I would have imagined after 60 years of virtual inactivity.
I was warned that it would take some time for this to happen and that it could be several months or longer or even shorter. SHORTER is better!!!
The learning process goes on both for me and my brain. Glad to know that the ol' thing can still learn new tricks...

Well that IS good news then! I am happy for you. It must be incredible to hear so much after such a long silence. Keep us posted as to how you are progressing please.

Nice! Yeah, by now you can probably hear your wife's thoughts and also the TV from the houses on the other side of the street
It's great to read about your positive experiences and how you enjoy recapturing that part of life.

Amazing things, they are... It's nice that you can turn it off... we "normal" hearing people have to put up with that everyday noise. LOL
It's funny how people will come in and buy hearing aids and then complain that they can hear the furnace or refrigerator or dishwasher running, and can't we adjust them so they don't hear those noises? It's stuff we hear every day and train our brains not to listen to.
Good luck with your programming and mapping! You'll be comfortable and hearing great soon.
