Thin Plywood 2,5/64 and 5/64 (1mm and 2mm)
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:33:21 am »
Hey folks,

I used Torstens advice and went to the Pratiker store in Germany today.
bought me some thin BB plywood 2,5/64 and 5/64 (1mm and 2mm). about 19,7"x27,5" (50x70 cm)
it has a great grain and has almost a shiny gloss.

cant wait to make some stuff of it.

Sounds like Good Type of Wood.  Let us know how it cuts.  Gee I sure wished I could drive to another country and shop.  LOL  Could drive to Tennessee.  LOL

What do you plan on making with the really thin material? I have seen some pretty thin stuff in the craft stores around here, I think you could cut it with a sissors.

I get 2mm marine ply and I love it.  Its great for portraits that are being framed and I made some book marks last year.  Great stuff.

You will love it. The quality is way above the normal ply's.

You should stack cut. this thin wood has no resistance otherwise. I already stacked up to 10 layers of the 1mm ply, cuts nice.

Dan, you've got the wrong car for that. Take This one.

But even if you retired ones like to take a ride "to get to see some", it's easier to just check for "Airplane ply" around your area.

the 1mm is thin enough to send by mail, in that case you can call it fly-wood.....  ::)

That's true - an old lady told me that too. She bought like a dozen of ornaments to add them to her Christmas cards.
I have never thought of that idea.

I did make some cards with a 3mm ply and that was a bit thick.

also - I just took a round in sheila's web shop: Sheila's Candle Holder animal patterns

I guess they look fine when mounted at a round candle base. the thin ply will take the bending pretty well.
