excalibur- 21 scroll saw
« on: November 10, 2011, 06:52:49 pm »
Does anyone know why the set screw backs out because it seems like every so often i have to reset it.  and it hard to tell if the blade is 90 to the table.  I have a 2" square

how far should be the set screw be inside the chuck.   is it just so there is no hole or does it stick out a bit or so..

Top and bottom used to so I put lock tight on them, level them up first before you set them in

Lightly or loosely install a blade top and bottom, tighten the clamp very lightly, just barely enough to hold it.  Works best best if it is a thick and heavy blade, say # 5 and up.  Use a 3mm allen wrench to tighten the set screws, and then tighten a bit more.  Now you are centered.

As Jimbo mentioned, loctite works, but use the one for easy removal, believe it is blue.

The set screws back out because there is movement in the arms when the saw runs and with the blade in place they can't get tighter so they start to back out. Loctite or reset them every 8 to 10 hours of cutting.  No big deal.

We did the same here, and used Loctite.  It works! :)

Maybe my saw is older than all of yours, but I have a little anvil on the tip of the set screw that is replaceable.  I wouldn't put lock tite on  it because I have to replace those tips periodically.  Doesn't yours have that tip?
