Hi folks! My name is Scott and my partner in the woodworking adventure we are starting on is my 12 year old son Michael. A few years ago my wife bought me a Craftsman 16 inch variable speed scroll saw. So far my working with it has amounted to plugging it in, marvel at the little blower and light and shut it off.
I have always had the desire to learn how to use one but after seeing some of the marvelous work that is out there and knowing that it was beyond my talent, the saw has only sat under my shelf.
I ran across this site, which Steve has so graciously put available, the other day while looking for simple yard art patterns for Halloween. Any holiday patterns you wish to share would be appreciated. My son and I are both already addicted to it and feel hopeful.
We are looking at trying to make a bunch of the key chains for the family for Christmas gifts. The saw has been dusted off and so far only 1 of the blades that came with it has been broken (haa-haa). After researching a bit more I know now what type of blades we can use and purchased them. It came with the ones that have the pin but can use the one without.
Anyway, the first attempt was a disaster with trying to get the blade to fit for finer work but we had fun
. Any suggestions and tips beyond what has posted on the forum would be a great help. Especially tips on the equipment and stuff we will need to begin this hobby. Trying to figure the best wood to use on the oval key chain.
We hope to learn and grow with you as we become more experienced; patients for the newbie?s please. From Michael and I we leave off for now with a hearty HELLO, glad to be with you all and hope
