The basswood is very soft and cuts easily. You have to be especially careful of the very small detail areas so that they do not 'break off'! This plank was 5/8" thinck.
For this particular piece I used FD New Spiral 2/0 blades and they performed well.
GrayBeard's Spiral advice...Strong tension, Fast Saw speed and SLOOOOOOW feed rate!
I have since acquired some Galaxy Spirals from Cherry Tree and I find two things so far...
1. Tension is critical, they are so fine and the twisted nature of the blade makes then vulnerable to breaking even before you start cutting if you over 'tension' them.
2. They are EXTREMELY aggressive! You really have to slow your feed rate even more so than with other small spirals. I also had to slow the saw speed to allow for the aggressiveness. Long straight or curved cuts are a virtual impossibility! They grab the grain and go!
