excelent work I wish I had 1/2 your talent, ::)

Len Chachi nailed it, lots of practice and listen to the sounds your saw makes, it will talk to you.
I know when I'm cutting right because all I hear is the teeth biting. If it starts knocking I'm putting too much side pressure on the blade, that will also make the blade hot and burn the wood (you'll smell it), which will also over heat the blade and take the temper out of it. Next thing you know the blade is dull and you have to force it to cut.
I've also discovered the tighter the blade the truer it will cut. I don't go by sound that much. I tighten the blade until there is less than 1/16" play from vertical either way. If the blade is in a drilled hole it's pretty hard to make it ping, so that's how I set it up.
Works for me and I haven't broken a blade from doing it that way yet. You do need to stop and check the tension periodically as they do stretch.
Keep at it, if a worn out old fart like me can do it you can too, I've only been at it since this spring!!!!
To everyone else, thank you for your kind comments, I do appreciate them. Yours too Marion! ;D

Gabby: GREAT work, now you need a "Star fish" to finish a set. Every time I try to think outside of the box, the box falls apart. LOL

Hmmmm
Starfish?
That's a possibility, a Brittle Star with the arms coiling.
Might just try my hand at that. For when I don't have anything to do! LOL
I was out in the carport till 12:00 last night cutting little bitty lines, no wonder I'm cross eyed today. LOL

I think you did very very good for an "old man". I made the same trivet a while back and used danish oil as the finish. So far the wife has not been able to scorch the finish off of it.

Paul you have been missed my friend, glad to see your goofy faced avatar.
It was from Arpop, I finally got that part straight.
Don't be a stranger. I hope this means you have a computer working again.

Wade I would have thought you would have designed one of your beauties as a trivet. It'll be a hot time in the old house tonight!  ;D LOL

Vince I guess I'm not the only night owl, usually I'm about ready to crash by 3.
