They might but the image needs to be larger, you sized it too small to see detail.

That looks better but I think the lines forming the lips would need to be thicker in order for the background to show through.
I was cutting a cartoon which was a simple line drawing, and quit before it was finished because of that very problem. I didn't want to spend the time going back over all of it and It would have made it extremely fragile.
