My husband's Anniversary gift

I took the picture of his bike, made the pattern and cut it.  It is on 1/4" BB and is 12"x19".  Not the best but I learned a lot while doing it.  The large size on my saw was a challenge and then after I started found the board to have a warp in it.  Oh well it is what it is and just hoping he likes it.
I use Print shop photo pro to crop and resize my pictures.  They don't ever seem to come across very good, so any ideas of how I can do better would be welcome.  Marion

Very nice Marion! What kind of camera are you using? When I take pictures of projects I take different shots with different lighting, flash, no flash and so on. Usually about a dozen shots. After I download to the computer, I pick out the best and delete the rest.
Give us some details on your photo technique and we will try to help.

Ok, One thing I just noticed is the pixel size is too small. Yours is showing 6.82 KB. You can have up to 128KB. When you resize your picture to fit, try to stay close to 128 KB. and your picture should come out allot clearer.

Dan when I resize in Photo shop it shows I am at 128KB   I have an old Kodak DX4530 ...

As a general rule if the picture is only going to be viewed in the digital domain (i.e. on a computer screen, on the web, on a phone/iPad/tablet etc.) then 72 DPI (dots per inch) is the preferred size. Anything above this is a waste as it just makes the file size bigger for no change in quality as these devices only display at 72 DPI anyway.

If the image is going to be printed then the preferred size is 300 DPI for general use. In specific cases where a very high quality print is required you can go as high as 600 or 1200 DPI if the printer can support those resolutions but the file size increases exponentially as you increase the DPI.

Bear in mind too that the JPG image format is a very 'lossy' one and you will get much better print results if you save as either a BMP or a TGA before printing but again the file size will increase accordingly.

I haven't finished it yet.  I just threw a piece of construction paper behind it so he could see what it would look like.  Needs more sanding, finish and then a backer.

Be sure and weight it down  HEAVY and even. Should help to cancel it out.
