I'm in the process of cutting out the pattern called "Ladies First".  I think I counted 650 holes just in the grass at the bottom.  That's where i quit for now.  I will cut all of them and then drill more when finished with that part.
I was trying to figure out how to make a counter for the drill press. I would make a mark for every 50 holes.

Well Chris
You could get one of those manual counters and set it up so it would trip every time your drill press (assuming you use one) bottoms out. OR-- --------
just get a pencil and paper and make a mark for every 5 or 10 then add them up!
Both ways should work.
Pencil and paper is probably the cheapest.

Once I paste my pattern on, I take a red fine tip sharpie and mark each cut out where I want to start the drill - saves me time in finding them later and at the same time I count the holes. Though in most cases I just don't want to know - LOL. But the shapie lets me know if I missed one. In some cases, I say t myself, you'll never cut that. I have never had a person say "You missed a hole, at which time I will show them where the front door is." LOL

That's a great idea, Vince!  I think doing it that way will give me a better look at where I want to start a cut.  When you have that many holes, it sometimes gets hard to tell where to go next.  Thanks for the idea.

Great idea ... sometimes I will stand at the drill press and contemplate where the best place would be.... by using the marker it's already decided and I can just go for it.....

I, like many I have read here drill all the holes before cutting. Then I go back and drill the ones I missed, just glad to know I'm not the only one who has to return to the drill press to drill missed holes. For whatever the reason it is so frustrating.

I am with Shelia L. on this.  Most times I drill all the holes at once, but I have found on the saw blade I am cutting out, there are so many small areas that I do them one section at a time.
