Well, I may finally be able to use my saw soon...
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:48:36 pm »
I have been a woodworker for many years, but never a scroller...until about ayear ago when I found Steve's site. That put a bug in my saddle. I went out and found a very nice Craftsman VS 16" saw, got it for a song tho it was only a few months old, and it has been sitting in storage for all that time. I just moved into my new house, and am getting my garage shop set up, and may be able to actually try out scrolling soon. I want to make a clock, for a dear Pastor friend, out of some mahogany I have saved, and a business card holder for his desk. I want to practice some before cutting on the real mahogany. I downloaded Steve's keychain maker, was not able to get it to work properly, so will re-download it. Want to make some of those for acquaintances.

Anyway, just wanted to check in and let y'all know I am here and that I will be watching your posts to get ideas for my work. If I ever get as good as some of y'all, I will feel really good.Gotta learn about blades and how the saw works before getting good...never run one before.

And, by the way, I am located in beautiful Port Orchard, Washington!!! Where two consecutive days of sun and no rain is called SUMMER!!! And if you are fortunate, it falls on a weekend!!!!!!

Welcome from Maine!  This place has more ideas flying around than I can keep up with, so you're sure to find something useful.  Just make sure you post some pics of your work in the brag section!

Howdy Neighbor from the liquid sunshine state of Oregon. Fifty two degrees of overcast, I might even get some cutting done today!

welcome from sunny Southern California. Come on in and join the fun.
Mahogany is my favorite wood to scroll. It cuts very nicely and finishes beautifully. As for blades go to www.mikesworkshop.com. He sell Flying Dutchman blades and will help you choose the right blades. Also, for Olsen blades, go to www.sloanswoodshop.com. They too will help you choose the right blade for the job.
Don't be afraid to ask question, and make sure you post pictures of your projects!

Welcome to the club.

Pick a pattern, start the saw and if it doesn't turn out exactly like you planned/hoped never admit that. Claim it was the design all along.

Works for me.

Lots of people here willing to pass on their experience. You'll like it.

Welcome and glad you found the forum. As you can tell, great people here, friendly and willing to help, so don't be shy. If it wasn't for Steve and this forum I probably wouldn't be scrolling. Good luck on your new venture...
