Thank you everyone.

As for the tear out, I did use a backer, but it didn't seem to help.  I tested the bit yesterday (at different speeds, Merlin ;D) and no matter what I did, I ended up with tear out both on top and bottom, so I'm quite certain it's just plain dull!  That's okay though, I've had this set of bits for a good many years now.

The dimensions are approximately 8" x 8".

Going to try my first attempt at segmentation next for a Mother's Day present.  (Another one of Sheila's patterns!)  Wish me luck!!!  ;)

I'm sure your sister will love it. Nice piece of work. She's a lucky lady. And yes, good luck on your segmentation.

You really did a beautiful job on it!  The drilling is sometimes more difficult than the scrolling on those types of patterns though.  I know what you mean about the tear out.  Sometimes if my drill bit is not sharp or if I try to go too fast it happens to me.  I am glad you were able to make it work for you.

Thank you for making the pattern look really wonderful!  Your sister is going to love it!

Sheila :)
