Yet another Sheila Landry Pattern
« on: April 16, 2011, 08:34:00 am »
Goldfinch from Sheila's Seasonal Songbird Series.  3/8" Baltic birch ply, lemon oil, satin lacquer, 1/8 birch ply backer with Pecan Polyshades stain.  Cut with FD UR #3 blade.  Had some problems drilling the holes in the frame.  I think my bit might be dull.  Even with an attached backer, the bit still did some tearing on the back side.  Wasn't pretty when I got done drilling it, but after some sanding, I got it to be acceptable.  Bday present for my sister.

Nice job! I love when people posts projects that I have seen and forgot about. I think I have this one buried in the to-do pile. Yours is fantastic.
as for the tear out, did you use a backing piece when you drilled the holes? Having the work piece held tightly to another piece can prevent some of the tearout.
Great Job!

Nice cutting mate, as for the tear out on the back I have found that speed is the key to tear out, even for a small bit the faster the better (sharp bits do help lol)

You did an absolutely wonderful job on this project. You took a great pattern and brought it to life. You are very talented and it shows.
