Hello from Blackforest Colorado
« on: March 13, 2011, 01:57:56 am »
Hello,   I've been doing scroll sawing for about 30 years off and on.  Started with a old Sears pinned type scroll saw.  Then upgrade to a plain end sears, then a variable sears then a old delta and now finally have a Hegner Multimax 22V.   I've had it for about 10 years.   I keep bouncing between the Lathe and the Scrollsaw.  So not great at either.  I've been trying to do portraits but I keep breaking the 2/0 spiral blade.  I know there has to be the right combo.  Tension, speed, feed rate.  I also want to try Intarsia.   Haven't gotten there yet.   I've been a Computer Software Engineer for the last 34 years.  I use woodworking to relieve stress.  I go down to my basement and put on Elvis and start to create something.  I look forward to chatting with you.

Thank you for the warm greetings,

I forgot this was my first scroll saw that my Dad gave me that he built in High School.

Welcome from the Midwest..St. Peters, MO!

Just be sure to let this 'addiction' continue to be a 'stress reliever' and when it becomes 'stressful' the answers and help are here for you!

RE: Spirals...I find that running the saw faster seems to help more than with the flat blades. BUT you have to SLOOOOOW down the feed rate or you wander...

Just be patient and keep scrolling and it will come!

I never really wanted to grow up....All I wanted was to be able to reach the cookie jar...and play with my DW 788

Hi Chris,
Welcome from London, Ontario.  I find the scrollsaw to be a great stress reliever too.  I often joke with people at work and tell them not to give me a hard time.....because I might use the scrollsaw tonight and think I am cutting up whoever gave me a hard day. :D
Your saw that your dad built looks really neat.
