Bible Box
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:39:15 am »
This is my 2nd bible box but the 1st one that has been flocked.  Wood used is Poplar and Cedar.  Finished with a semi gloss lacquer. The flocking is wine colored although the picture does not do it justice.

Great piece of work there. I still want to make myself one, but keep holding it off, I am not great at cutting straight lines.

I like the project, it looks great. How hard is the flocking to do? I keep thinking it would be fun to try.

On the whole it is real easy to do.  It does take some practice.  You need to seal the surface that you are going to flock. I tape off the area to be flocked.  Then you apply a paint consistency colored glue that you brush on or when thinned properly sprayed on to the surfaces that you want to flock.  While the glue is still wet you blow the flock on to the glue with the applicator that comes with the kit.  Then you set it aside for a day.  After the glue is dry you can reclaim any loose fibers and put them with the rest in the baggy.  The little micro fibers will get all over the place if you are not careful.  Also if you are like me the colored glue will end up in the strangest places :)

Beautiful DW! I just got some wine flocking for the box I'm working on. Haven't tried it yet, but looking forward to it.
