SP_343 magnify light

Have you had a chance to try your magnifying light?  I am returning mine.  It doesn't work with bifocals.

Nope...haven't had a chance to do any cutting since before Christmas.  Looks nice...but we'll see once I get it working.  I'll let you know....

Hey Judy, have you tried taking your glasses off. I got one to and I am still fiddling with it. Taking my glasses off seems to help.

Yep tried that box maker. Didn't help. And the lights are just plain pityful!

Well, I have seen this other magnifier that goes on your head, like a head band. I thought about trying that to. I can't remember where I seen it though?  I need to get something to work the lines seem to get harder and harder to see.

What I have done is go to the Dollar store and try several different magnifying glasses. Find one that works best at about 18 to 24 inches away form your eyes (or whatever distance you typically use for scrolling. Just remember the stronger the power the less depth of focus. It would usually be near reading a computer screen power (or less than a reading glass). then you can use any old lighting you want from back, sides or where ever.

Russ..it was from Rockler .I gotta admit they are great about returning it.
I don't think any magnifier will work for me since I have an implant in one eye which makes that eye way better than the other one.

The lens on that one looks a little small. I have the one from Harbor Freight (5" lens) and love it. I guess with your implant, any magnifying light might not work. Talk to your Opthamologis.

Well....I tried the light/magnify combo from Rockler.....wasn't as great as I thought it would be.

Had a hard time finding a place to mount it.  I've got the light and EZ Lift system on my DeWalt, so mounting it like the picture was hard to do...and made the arm heavier when I lifted it to move the blade to a new entrance hole.

I tried the clamp mount it came with and put it on my saw stand.  That worked well, but I could never get the light to be in just the right place when I was cutting.  Also, larger pieces of wood kept hitting the arm, when it was in the clamp mount.  Also, I tried looking through it with and without my glasses on and it never seemed that "clear" to me. 

The light was nice and it is a GREAT concept....it just didn't work for me...so I went back to the way I have always cut.  I'll keep it...maybe play with it another day...like I said, it's nice....might just take some tinkering to get it to be perfect.
