Craft Show.......
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:37:19 pm »
Last Saturday I did a local Band Booster show and sold just over $100 in 'stuff'.

This Saturday I get a letter from the State Of Missouri, Collector of Revenue telling me I have 14 days to pay the Sales Tax on my Gross Sales!

So much for being involved in a 'cottage industry'!

Watch Out...Big Brother is EVERYWHERE and he is BROKE!

I never really wanted to grow up....All I wanted was to be able to reach the cookie jar...and play with my DW 788

Wow GB, What a bummer! At The Wood art show I did at the Woodcraft store last Saturday, the items were rung up through the store and sales tax was also collected, so I didn't need to worry about that. Unfortunate the store is taking a 20% cut!

You should be able to get a interest free loan from the Government to pay that over 20 years.

That is just one of the reasons I don't do shows or flea markets.  8)

They are tough here as well that is if they can catch you, the IRD hang around the big fairs or the one that run on a weekly basis, if I had to pay GST I would cart it and give my stuff away as I wouldn't make any money

That's kinda why I like the consignment places.  Yes, you pay a percentage but they collect the taxes.  You still have to show the net sales but not the tax.  It also works out sometimes as a business loss because you are selling for less that you otherwise would have.

If I do something like that, it will be in an yard sale type environment. The State really does not police it. Dave  8)  P.S. As of yet!
