Year of the Dragon and Lythe puzzles
« on: November 12, 2010, 06:27:59 am »
Here is probably the hardest puzzle I have cut out to date..And a easy Lythe one with wings..I made the Lythe out of clear poplar and the Year Dragon out of Aspen..I'm thinking about making the eyes re on this one or staining the whole thing a reddish color.

Really nice work!  I have a friend who is into dragons, even has several dragon tatoos.  He would love those.  I agree with the reddish stain.  Those would look great cut out of bloodwood to.

when you cut puzzles out of solid wood do you have trouble with pieces breaking? i have had some poplar pieces break. i'm afraid to use oak because of that. i get pieces of scrap mdf with maple or
cherry veneer on both sides and have been usuing some of that. i dip in WATCO danish oil, seems to work ok. i figure kids wont break this. what is everyones opinion? thanks

MDF for kids puzzles is asking for trouble, MDF is made with formaldehyde  dangerous stuff if kids start chewing on the puzzle pieces.

Please read if you are going to use for kids puzzles, me I wood not use it for that purpose.
