DeWalt "Rumor" going around....

Rumor is that DeWalt is going to 'discontinue' the Yellow 788 and Rick replied ...

If you follow the threads that have been written on many of the forums in the last 6 months it may be right.

The Dewalt may now be the new Delta. I sure don't understand the reason, but it sure looks to me like that is what is happening.

I don't know for sure, but it is kind of obvious isn't it? why else would they introduce the Delta that is exactly the same saw as the DeWalt  with a different color?
If you look at the different divisions, Delta, Porter Cable, Black & Decker and DeWalt, You will find that DeWalt is their professional builders division. Delta and Porter Cable are their woodworking lines and B&D are their home handy man line. A scroll saw is not usually identified with professional builders. I think they are just moving the 788 to the woodworking line. Same saw, different color!

Wouldn't it be interesting to know just how many 788's are in use around the world!

ScrollSaw Woodworking & Crafts did a review of scroll saws in their fall issue. They claim that except for the color and name plates the saws are identical!

I read that and when I looked at the cover I almost fell off the 'throne'!

I wondered why they put the 'new guy' all the way in the back and than made it the "Editor's Choice".

They Made the Delta editors choice because of the manufactures suggested retail price. I know you can get a DeWalt 788 for $449 at Grizzley's with the stand and a light, But the MSRP of the Delta is less than the 788, and it comes with the stand and light in the box. The DeWalt dose not come with the stand and light.

I agree with Dan.

Black & Decker acquired Dewalt in 1960 and establish them as there contractor line. In 2005, Black & Decker acquired Delta Machinery, Porter-Cable, and Oldham Saw.

I think they are putting it (788) in the woodworkers line (Delta) where it should have been to begin with.

I just stopped in WoodCraft and they are sitting side by side and there is NO difference except the light and stand go with the saw. The Delta is sitting closest to the main aisle.
That leads me to believe that they are phasing out the 788 and when they are gone it will all be Blue/Gray.
Salesman told me that they have sold one so far.
