ImageShack.usDid anyone guess Rosewood? This is the bud union of a wild rose I salvaged from a pile of brush in No. Virginia in the early 80s when I was stationed at the ?Puzzle Palace.? Hung it on a fence post for about a year and then cleaned it up, trimed it, sanded it, and finished it with several coats of varnish. We keep it on the hearth as a conservation piece.
Pic 5 is the third hardest wood there is (maybe some of you can tell us the first 2). Comes from the mountains of California and Mexico. The vase was a gift. The other piece is natural, I just finished it. Also on the hearth as a conservation piece I?m no turner. Have any of you turners put something like this on a lathe?
