Sanding Mop....SPEED?

Since I am totally new to the 'sanding mop' process I am wondering about the SPEED the mop should be turning when used?

Very Fast....Very Slow....Somewhere in between??

I use mine in my drill press at 1100 rpm. Seems to work fine for me. I made mine from materials I had in my shop.

Hey GrayBeard, I mount mine in my midi lathe. I run it at about 1500 rpm.
Klingspor recommends max at 2300 rpm.

I run mine at what ever speed that old $9.00 drill that I mounted flat runs at.  Works great

GB: I have an old Ryobi 5 speed Drill Press-speeds 500-890-1400-1900-2500.
And have found that 890 is a nice speed for sanding 1400rpm and above seems too fast and seems to take a lot more wood and skin.

Then when polishing the puzzle pieces 500 can be a nice speed to work at, go fiquire.

Gray the one I made I put in the drill press at about 800 and it was fine then I put in the lathe at around 2500 and it destroyed the paper it was breaking off before I even started sanding, I think 800 to 1000 would be about rite and the paper would last longer.
On the lathe the motto is turn fast and sand slow

I  have mine mounted on an old electric motor.  I have no idea how fast it is turning.  How can I figure out the speed?

Look on the motor for a metal tag riveted or glued to it. It usually tells the horse power (1/3 for example) and the RPM at a given amperage.

It says 1725...so that is the speed I'm using for my sanding mops..
