Let's discuss the mugs, shall we?
« on: September 21, 2010, 06:04:53 pm »
The winning mug was good... but I personally didn't care for the added feature on the base.  Just my preference - don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.  I voted for #3 because I liked that the handle was different woods also.

Which did you vote for and why?

[Update - I added a picture of them all to make it easier to remember.  I might not have sized them properly.]

Janet, you are so right! I did not like the turned foot either. I voted for #1. I liked the color of the wood choices. The one with the lid was clever, but the mug itself was kind of bland even with the wood burning.

I voted for the one with beer in it, hey I'm from Wisconsin - anything with beer is a winner!!!
I love the smell of saw dust in the morning.

I debated the one with beer in it. That was a really nice touch.

I voted for #3. The handle is what put it over the edge for me.  8)

Hey guys everyone has their own opinion and that is why it went to the vote, I wasn't all that keen on the winner either but it got the vote, I wish mine had turned out half as good, in fact mine was a complete disaster from start to not finished, I will post a pic of my attempt later

I found the winner quiet quirky(different), I did vote for 3 though for the same reason, the handle just did it for me. I think all of them turned out nice though, I enjoyed seeing the different ideas and creations people can come up with. To everyone that entered thanks for sharing with us.

I voted for #2 because I liked the vertical look of the 'stripes'.

I appreciated the quick work done by all the entries.  I voted for #3 because of the handle as well.  I thought #4 bent the rules by using a lathe on the pedestal.  The one with the lid was ingenious but I still liked #3 the best.

I also voted for #3, I thought the handle gave the finishing touches to the rest of the mugs design.

Hey guys, My vote went for #7. I guess I should have been impartial but #7 was made by the 10 year old in the picture. He had a little help with the sanding from his father but he did all the cutting and assembly. His dad had the email of the contest open and he saw it and wanted to enter. His dad said he could but would have to do most of it himself. I thought he did a great job.

Wow Steve, If I had known that I would of voted for his! To bad he didn't win, but he did an excellent job for a ten year old.
Thanks Steve for this contest, It was a lot of fun and look forward for more in the future. Our woodworking club does a bimonthly "Challenge" Where a subject is given and we go off and make our interpretation of the subject. The next challenge is to make something of wood that you can wear.

Not me... I'd have still voted for the striped handle one.  No special treatment for the kids!   ;) :P :-X
