Passing the Hat
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:03:42 pm »

During the last Sunday service that the visiting pastor
was to spend at the church he served for some months,
his hat was passed around for a goodwill offering.

When it returned to the pastor, it was empty. The pastor
didn't flinch.  He raised the hat to Heaven and said,
"I thank You, Lord, that I got my hat back from this
congregation."

What is a chaplain?  I mean, I know a pastor is not Catholic but the one that does the sermons and a priest is the same but Catholic... but what's a chaplain?  Just a diff name for the same thing?  Or is it the same thing only in the armed forces?

As a non catholic, i know that "the" priest of a congregation  is appointed by the bishop.
In Holland this "first" priest is mostly called pastor.
A chaplain is "secundary" priest in the same church who is helping him.
Next to that, in the military Chaplain is the name for a catholic priest.

so I don't realy know al the differents between a priest and a chaplain but there can be some. (I guess?) 8)

help us out here Ron!

Janet,

You have it mostly right. A chaplain is a minister but I am not with the armed forces. I provide caregiving in the workplace. Companies large and small across America provide an extra level of support for their employees by having a Corporate Chaplain. Here are some links that explain what I do when I am not scrolling or reading this forum.

http://onthescene.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/02/11/corporate-chaplains-offer-hope-in-bad-economy/

Because God has given me hope when I needed it most and has guided my life and marriage through good times and bad. My mission is to build caring relationships with the hope of gaining permission to share the life changing Good News of Jesus Christ in a non-threatening manner.

Ron,  This is great news to me.  Thanks for the link.  It is comforting to know that corporate America is providing a valuable service for believers.  Political correctness has given the few power over the masses where spiritual matters are concerned.  With Christmas coming, I cringe at the barage of stories of "Happy Holidays" so as not to offend. When I worked in retail, we were restricted to "company sponsored" pins and embellishments on our aprons, no flags, crosses etc.

So, what denomination are you?  Catholic?

Thanks for the explanation Ron.  I'm a curious creature.   ;)

Ron, I forwarded this to my Preacher and he responded by saying it sounded like his congregation.

Don't think I could be a Catholic after 33 years of marriage. Deep water Baptist here.
