Imake my own frames out of 3/4 red oak, router edge,,dado cut back for pic.My only problem was I didn't have enough frame to sink backer also,so made 1/4 bigger all the way around and fastened to frame what do you think.

Nice job on the frame, looks really good
I have done the same thing as you on a couple of the frames I have made and I think yours look fine to me as well
