When I was a kid, we always looked ahead to find the Burma Shave signs.  Then we would all read them aloud as each came by.

Burma Shave, nice clean workmanship, Now help me with the significance of Burma Shave, it must be a sign but I will soon be 76 and don't recall seeing it. But then memory fades as I had to look up  my Social Insurance Number the other day, something I have used for 50 or 60 years

Google Burma-Shave. You will find it most interesting. They were advertising signs all along America's highways with clever slogans. I'll be 80 in November I guess I'm a bit older.

I am 71, remember than well along US Hwy 6, 61, and 30 in Eastern Iowa as I was growing up.

Just spent some time on the Burma-Shave.org web site.  Good memories.  Didn't know the signs started in the late 20s - before my time.

thanks for the info on Burma shave. I goggled it and found lots of interesting info. surprised to find some Canadian politicians used the slogans in their campaign. It confirms that I a haddeprived childhood. Not really, never travelled as a kid nor had television untill 1958 and then it was only 1 blurry channel.

Fond memories for virtually all of us.  I recall traveling US Highway 75 as a youngster between Fort Worth and Houston, Texas to visit family.  I think that on the US Highways where the roads were much narrower than the latter developed Interstate system the signs were much closer to our vehicles.  If my history is correct the
Interstate system was developed by Eisenhower as he had appreciated the value of the German autobahns   which basically superseded the US Highways.  Oh and as a point of reference I am 73.

I'm not in my shop now but I guess it is 11 or 12" long.
