Buying wood for projects

Hello it's been a while I looking to make some keychains and looking to buy wood mostly hardwoods.Can someone help me find a good place to buy wood.It looks like 1/4 inch will do the job.I remember Steve buying and showing the boards that looked great but I can't find that post.

I've never cut key chains so perhaps I'm probably out in left field here but...would not 1/8" BB be less bulky and less prone to breaking? Just a thought. Hardwoods might be more interesting due to the varieties in hardwoods.

You will see them on the left border of Steve's blog page each day.  They have a good selection of hardwoods as well as baltic birch plywood.  They custom cut each order when it comes in - so others who sell from stocked inventory will be a little faster.  I have been pleased with my purchases there.  Steve did a video on them some months back complimenting their product. 

I have cut Steve's keychains out of 1/4" hardwoods.

If you are talking about Steve Personalized Key chains I have cut a couple hundred using various hardwoods.

Cherry is my favourite but have cut maple, oak, walnut or anything I have scraps of.  I make them about 3/8" or a little less.

My daughter is a principal and she has changed schools a couple of times and she gives them out to all the teachers at Christmas.   I do about 3 - 4 an hour.  One of the teachers wanted 25 for a family reunion and I charged $1 a letter min $5.

I don't want to pry into your personal techniques, but are you using a spiral blade on those?  Or a normal blade?

I use a Flying Dutchman UR #3. ( I tried Pegas but could not control the square turns - my bad).

Some combinations of leters slow you down like M and W and longer names.

I did some in Maple and I found packing tape on the back helped.

I had one to do today so I timed myself.

For gluing pattern, drilling holes, cutting and sanding on the mop mac.  23 minutes. 8 letters and numbers.

This in cherry.  This is for sports bag.

Hey guys I mean the thickness of those Oval Keychains 1/4 seems  pretty thick have any of you guys made these in different thickness.Wonder which size is best.Thanks again.  Tom
