What kind of scroll saw do you own?
« on: July 31, 2010, 02:12:06 pm »
What kind of scroll saw do you own. What did you start with and if you could upgrade what scroll saw would like to own?
I currently own a DeWalt 788. I started with a Dremel. And I would like to try a hawk but I actually have never used one.
How about you?

I own a Proxxon DSH/E. Works well for me. I would love a Hegner but provberbly will never be able to afford one. Or I might try a DeWalt after reading all the good things about them here.

In 197?, I bought a used Delta scrolling jigsaw at a yard sale which I used for 20 yrs.  I then got a Delta Q3 which I used for several years when I added 3 Delta ss350's and a Delta 20".  I currently have all of them except for the 20" and have added a Hawk 220 which I use most of the time.  I would sometime like to have an Excalibur or 26" Hawk but probably won't make it in this lifetime.

I started with an VERY OLD Mongomery Ward TDR2354 with pin end blades and a power take off for a dremel type tool.  Did not work well for anything but bulsa wood.  Got frustrated and gave up for about 2 years then got a Delta 40-560 16".  Worked quite well and really got my interest going.  Now I have a Dewalt DW788 and love it. Learning something new every day and trying new things to cut all the time.

Happy Scrolling

I started with a Sears 16". Upgraded to ridgid 16",then added a EX-30 and DeWalt 788.
Saving for an Ex-21. Still have everything except the sears.

started 20 plus years ago with a Craftsman c-arm found out the difference of cutting on a paralle arm machine bought a 16" v/s delta wore it out bought a dewalt and wore it out in less than 18 months, I was cutting production in a craft store. bought a hawk 220vs and never looked back, recently purchased a jr hawk for demos and such that requires transporting the saw 35 pounds and love it also.

Started with an unknown clunker, then inherited a Craftsman 16" VS 18 mos. later I bit the bullet and bought my DW788. It should do all the cutting I will be able do from now on.
Very Happy I made the 'upgrade'!

I never really wanted to grow up....All I wanted was to be able to reach the cookie jar...and play with my DW 788

Started with a "Tradesman" from Ace Hardwear for $100.00. It was a pin-end only saw.
Then moved up to a Dremel and thought that I had died and gone to heaven. It was $200.00.
Then I discovered Steves blog (he uses a DeWalt) and someone else suggested I would like the DeWalt also, so I got one for $450.00.
Right now I would say that I'm as happay a clam and have no reason to covet any other saw.
That may change without notice but, I'm happy for now!
(All that was over a period of 10 years I think.)
