Thanks for the post, I'm due for a new one and these are much cheaper than Rockler's.

I am looking for a unique way to sign my stuff.  I've seen the branding irons, but heard they can be inconsistent and a little tricky.  I read of one person who had coins with his logo on them made and recessed them into the wood alongside a penny from the year of origin of the project, I just can't fine a source for the coins.  Currently I just stamp my initials in with metal punches.

Do any of you have some other ideas?

In one of Steve's posts he had mentioned some coins. i think they were called Widgets. I'm sorry but I don't remember when the post on his blog was.

I was thinking something like a tack... maybe someone on etsy could do it.

Now that you posted the site from the blog, I remember viewing it, but the PRICE?  The other one I had heard of was metal coins, but I've never seen them.

Are the Irons small enough to brand a cross about 4" tall and 3" wide? That would be the smallest or maybe a ornament or two? Just wandering since you use one. I am getting kinda tired of signing all my stuff.

I went down to the Office Depot and had them make a personalized stamp for me.  You can have it made for about $20 or so and put whatever words you want on it including a phone number, web page address or whatever.

I've found with some woods the ink has a tendency to wick out giving it a blurry appearance so I have learned to wait and put a coat of Deft or urethane or whatever on first and then stamp it.  Then I let the ink dry at least overnight before adding more coats of the finish.

Becky, in the rubber stamping department at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or a stamp store you will find special ink pads  that will not run.
Also, you can find rubber stamps makers online that have more designs than an office supply story would.

Forgot to say, instead of using the widget Steve mentioned or a coin, I would order small brass plate with name and date for the front of a big cathedral clock, for instance.
