Don't Put Up With it!
« on: February 20, 2015, 10:16:44 pm »
I have had a terrible squeak in my Excalibur when I raise the upper arm.  This has been going on for some time.  I have tried to adjust things to get rid of it but it would not go away.  Today I had had enough so I emailed Seyco, where I bought it, to ask for advice.  I had a reply in less than 30 minutes.  Ray asked me to please call so he could listen over the phone to the squeak.  I called, all were busy so I left a message.  Ray called back a few minutes, he listened, told me what to do and 10 minutes after we hung up, saw fixed, squeak gone and saw running smother than it has since I bought it!

Don't be stubborn like me, got a problem with your Excalibur, call Ray!

Now that is what you call "first class service". I have had the pleasure to talk with Ray in the past regarding a different question and have found him to be very knowledgeable about most things and a very kind person. Buying from Ray is not just another sale, but rather the beginning of a relationship.

Can you say what the problem and fix were? If my EX-21 does the same I'd like to know what to try.

I had the upper arm adjustment screw way too tight.  The upper arm should lift easily to maximum height and then sorta lock in place and stay up.  I had it so it would stay raised even though it was not at the peak.  That adjustment screw also has a ball bearing on the end of it.  I cleaned it  and the piece on metal it roll against, and put a little bit of lube on it.

Awesome! My next saw will probably be an Excalibur.

Ray is the best.  When I received my new saw last spring, it had a loud knocking and vibrated pretty bad.  Everything we tried would not fix it so he sent me a new saw with no questions asked.   Don't know what the problem was with the first one but the new saw has been working great.  Great company to deal with.

I bought my EX21 from Ray many, many years ago.  It was used then, and well used now.  I used to live about 10 minutes from his shop.  I cannot say enough good things about him and his wife.  They have always given first class service to their customers.

I had the same issue with my adjustment screw. It is not an easy adjustment and the manual does not describe it very well. The arm would not stay up so I turned it in, but it was too far. I didn;t realize that I had friction holding it up rather than the spring loaded ball bearing. I also had the body of the screw hitting the frame and rubbed a big gash into it that eventually became a squeak. I wish it had been adjusted correctly before the saw was shipped to me.
