Just finished up this one. It's one of Charles Dearing's great patterns.
This was the last piece of a rough cut maple slab that I've had lying around for about 6 years. It's figured maple with some burl features in it. I used the rest back then and finally decided to use this last one. I gave it a fresh run through the planer and the bark on the left side stayed in tact. There's even a little fuzzy green moss still on some of the bark.
The pictured don't capture the iridescent flame in the wood, especially down by the body and foot print.
The base is walnut and the removable drop in style I usually make for this kind of thing.
This one happens to be a gift, but I'm curious.
I've made several different things like this on live edge slabs like this and I've been asked several times by people about making one for them to buy.
What would you all think something like this should sell for? I know it can vary greatly between craft fair versus gallery, etc, but what would you ask for this one for example? Don't worry, you won't hurt my feeling a bit if you say 20 bucks, LOL
