Cherry Pipe
« on: August 07, 2014, 11:55:19 am »

This is a 6" long tobacco pipe compound cut from a 1" x 1.25" x 6" cherry blank. Instructions are in the pattern GIF.

This pipe draws very well and it is much lighter than a briar version, so easier to hold in your mouth.

After smoking a bowl I had a dry feeling in my mouth - I guess from the cherry wood mouthpiece. I ordered some commercial stems from PIMO http://www.pimopipecraft.com/index.html and will see how those work.

The compound cut pattern is attached.

Nice pipe.  Interesting idea, would have to be careful though on the wood used I would think.  Great idea and nice pattern.  Thanks for sharing this with us.

DW - according to my source, any fruit or nut tree should be a good candidate for the bowl (no toxicity problems). The all-wood stem and mouthpiece seems to draw moisture out of your mouth, so I guess that's why most commercial pipes have a plastic mouthpiece. Those are not expensive - I have some on order to try out.

Might try making a clay stem tip or one out of soap stone.

I've often thought it would be fun to make some pipes.  This would be a good starter.

Thanks, EIEIO.  I have been to that sight before.   My problem is I already have more hobbies than I need!
