A Strange Object in my Tree....??....
« on: August 05, 2014, 12:29:48 pm »
I noticed this up in the branches last week.  Just thought it was a gray paper plate that blew there and lodged..BUT..

Don't think this is the case now.

Here is the Best pictures I could take.              DOES ANYONE REGONIZE IT?

Did watch it for many minutes and the only thing I seem was a FLYING OBJECT around it.  Thought it could be

a Bee Hive, but seems there would be LOTS of bees present at all times.

Hey....Could it be from Outer Space?                              Thanks for your Input.............Danny  :+}

I suspect there is a wasp that makes this kind of nest.  Proceed with caution!

Yep....Googled and ....IS A WASP NEST....
              Almost attempted to use the 20 foot shot of WASP SPRAY, but it sure would MAKE THEM MAD
              and they might be FASTER than me.  LOL

Guess I should give in and call a Pro.                Does anyone have any other ideas?            Thanks...........Danny  :+}

That looks like a hornet's nest to me!  We don't have them in Florida, only a gagillion other vaarmints.   Could be lots of occupants.  I believe I would get help if I were you.

Liquid nitrogen. That's how our Fireman experts deal with wasp beehives. AND protective clothes.

Danny, looks like a wasp nest.
what size is it, 1' or so?
Better let the pro take care of it.

I would be willing to bet that is a Hornets nest and they are dangerous. Looking at the pic, that is a good size nest.
I had an uncle who was stung to death by Hornets.
I would call a pro to take care of it.

It is made by mud dabbers so it will fall apart real easy.  Just walk up to it and throw a bucket of water on it.  (If you have a death wish).  What I do with yellow jackets, which are also nasty critters, is wait until dark when all the nasty critters are inside all cuddled up in their little beds, or however else they sleep, then use the long range spray.  They don't fly at night and I haven't been stung yet.  Check the next day and see if any survived.  If so, do it again.  If no more buzzing around then wash away the nest with a water spray.  Have phun and good luck..

Your right on the night thing Chuck,
years ago I did see some guys take a 5 gallon plastic bucket with  lid and they placed it around the nest.
chopped the nest of the branch and put the id on real quick.
only one guy was stabbed 3 times...
they filled the bucket with water till all where dead.

my advise: find a local beekeeper to help you, he has all the protective cloths and probably will do it for less that the pro companies.
wasp eat bee's so if you are lucky he will do it for free ;)

That is a hornet nest and they are not to be messed with unless you like severe pain or have a death wish.

Boy this has been a Good Subject.  Being the Nest is in my thoughts approx. 40 foot up and ..the can of wasp spray says \
it will spray ..27 feet..  Leaves me short....SO....  Was advised that when Cold weather sets in they will leave the nest.
They don't seem to be bothering anything down here.    Anyway I THANK ALL for your input....  Danny  :+}
