Alphabet Puzzle
« on: May 19, 2014, 11:06:25 am »
Just finished making Steve's Alphabet puzzle for my daughter. It's for the kids at a pre-school she runs, it still needs finishing and painting but one of the other staff does all that with child safe paints.

Hope you like it.

Good idea rounding the corners - those kids can get pretty violent. Maybe round would be safer?  Made out of foam rubber? Labelled "Peanut Free Manufacturer"? You ARE Peanut-free, aren't you? :)
Great precision on the lettering - that always is hardest for me.

I just cut mine out.  very happy with it.  wondering-should the letters be sanded a bit on sides to allow for paint?

To Loophole: No paint on the sides wood make the puzzle to tight a fit.
In the old days wooden ply puzzles were never painted on the sides from my memory...But then I'm old and memory is something that lacks a bit now-a-days. ;D ;D ;D

You might consider a Watercolor wash. It gives color but leaves the grain visible, and it has an antique look to it. It also does not go on thick so the pieces should still fit together. The water may cause the grain to rise a bit, so you could us denatured or rubbing alcohol rather than water for the paint thinning.
