Nice one, Dave.
Here's a little variation - in Inkscape, [Path][Simplify] to add some smoothing to the pattern.
EX-21 arrived 2-1-2013!

at which point are you using the "simplify" I am assuming directly after the trace?

Ray forget that (must of been having a senior moment) the answer was obvious "straight after the trace"
so thats just been added to my (clever button list)
