Fretwork Jewelry Box
« on: December 11, 2013, 10:46:12 pm »
I made this for a customer it is made from cedar.  It's dimensions are 14" long x 7 1/2" Wide x 4" deep.  It is lined with 1/32 ply and then flocked with wine colored flocking.  It was sealed with tung oil then top coated with shellac.

I really like the box you made. It looks very fancy and I'm sure it will be enjoyed for years.
What kind of hinges did you use on the lid? I really can't see them and it doesn't look like a lift off lid either?

The box has a lift off lid per the customers request.  I have a 1/4" thick lid centering panel on the underside ( cedar of course ).  I originally wanted to put hinges on it but the customer did not want them so the lid is one of the lift off types.

That is a beautiful box. I want to try something like that someday after I get more seat time at my saw.

Great job!!

Gorgeous fretwork, DW. I want to make a box like that but I keep putting it off because I know that I will end up with everything out of square and it'll end up as kindling.

Martin.
