I need your advice

I want to make some Christmas presents with Steve's hummingbird pattern. It says use 1/8" for the pattern and 1/2' backer board.

I have never used anything that thin. What do I need to use for this?
I think Baltic Birch plywood?

What do you all recommend?

thank you Rob I am going to order my plywood from Sloan's. I have read several threads on here where that is a good place to buy from

I also need to ask how many can I stack cut with the 1/8" plywood?

you could try 4 and see how you go, or you could be really greedy and go for 6.

Yes Sloan's is a great place to buy the Baltic Birch. If you want to try some thin hardwoods try http://www.ocoochhardwoods.com/ I usually stack 3 or 4.

Depends on what kind of tools you have in your shop.  I like making furniture, so I resaw hardwood on the bandsaw, then run it through a drum/thickness sander to make it uniform and take out the saw marks.  I ran some maple offcuts that way this morning and turned scrap into good scrollsaw material.
