Mormon baptismal ornaments
« on: September 30, 2013, 01:41:57 pm »
I created these ornaments last year for my wife.  She was teaching the class of kids that were 7, turning 8 which is when LDS kids are baptized.  She gave them out about mid year and suddenly I had requests from all over the place to make them for friends of friends and relatives and complete strangers.

I'm sure that adding names and dates would make them much better, but I'm a pretty unsophisticated scroll-sawer.

It's all my work from a few photos I took of friends and a few kids to get the silhouettes.  Use them as you'd like.

If you really improve the detail or quality, please post them back here.

Great pattern.  Perhaps I'm slow this morning but I don't see how you cut it.  Do you discard what it outside the outline or what?

Could you post a picture of one of the finished ornament?

Thanks,
Jim

You just cut everything that's black.  There's no discarded pieces except the surround.  Ignore the red spot.

If I was really good, I'd take side portraits of the kids and put their heads on them.  I actually tried once but just couldn't get it right.  I'm really not very artistic.  I approach art with the scientific method.

I used Illustrator to clean them up a bit, size them, and shade the area gray.  For some reason the girl's was slightly smaller than the boys.

Clay, now that you explain it, it's obvious.   ;D  (We do need an emoticon for slapping one's forehead.)

Thanks,
