Not sure thats the correct spelling for them PESKY lil critters, but I ran across a

Sure fire way to GET RID OF THEM....  Every year this time we get bothered by
them right n left and especially when eating.  Anyway....  MIX  in small jar OR?
WITH A LID.  A few drops of regular dish washing liquid with APPLE CIDER VINEGAR.
I use a small jar with approx. 1/3 cup vinegar...............

Drill lots of tiny holes in the lid and set it ANYWHEREs....  We have been using this
method for a month and HEY MIRACLES DO HAPPEN.  HASN'T BEEN A ONE THAT
HAS BUZZED AROUND MY FACE SINCE THEN.    Anyway....  Danny  :+}

How does it work?  Does the smell keep them away, or does it attract them into drowning in the liquid?

Do you have one for Ticks?   We have 70 acres of woods and enjoy going there, but the ticks are killers.

Tick Repellent for Humans:

A simple homemade repellent can be made with a few inexpensive household idgredients.  In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water. To make a scented solution so you do not smell like bitter vinegar all day, add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil or bath oil.  Eucalyptus oil is a calm, soothing scent that also works as a tick repellent, while peppermint and citrus oils give off a strong crisp scent that also repels ticks.

After mixing the solution, spray onto clothing, skin and hair before going outdoors.  Reapply every four hours to keep ticks at bay, and examine the skin and hair when returing home to make sure no ticks are on the body.

Hope this helps.

for gnats I use Vanilla Fantasy, it's a body spray, works great, spray into hand then rub on face/ears etc...  Kinda takes away that "hey, you need a shower" smell too.
I love the smell of saw dust in the morning.

AVON's  Skin-so-Soft...   repels 'lil critters,  too.  A couple of oz.s in a 16 oz. spray bottlet, topped off with water.  Spray on dogs, cats, etc.  flees  head for the hills.
