Before I came to South Africa, I used to speak Dutch and German quite fluently, but had to "forget" them trying to learn Afrikaans. Spent a lot of time in Borne between Hengelo and Almelo in the Twente district.

I grew up in Almelo but that was over 25 years ago, did you work in Borne?
I always like the way Afrikaans sounds because a lot of words sounds dutch or have dutch origin.
Do you know we have an other SA member who lives in Holland now? he's called Dawie here on the forum.
