Delta 40-690 bottom rocker replacement
« on: April 18, 2013, 04:01:44 pm »
Well, I have the new part and am trying to remove the old one.  I have the two bolts removed (where the two holes are in the picture) but each bolt goes through a bushing that is preventing the upper and middle "arms" from dropping out.

The new part (second pic) doesn't seem to have a recess for a bushing in the "ears" so I assume the arms should pull out of the old rocker?  Am I correct?

Any suggestions on how to remove the arms from the old piece?

Thanks,
Jim
PS, the 40-690 is a clone of the DW788

Looks like you have to remove the bottom screw to get it out.

dgman, I may have to do that but I hope not.  I should be able to remove the top arm from the rocker, even with the bottom screw in place, as it pivots on the blade clamp, but I can't even get the top arm off.

Thanks,
Jim

My guess is that the bushings have worn into the metal side brackets and that is what is catching. Try rocking the top arm sideways while trying to pull it out of the bracket. You will probably need to use some force.

Got it changed.  I put a small screwdriver between the ears and the arm (red arrows) and opened up enough space to get the arms out.  I probably could have just put a wedge between the rocker and the arm (blue arrow) and pushed it straight out but this worked.

I ended up removing the bottom screw.  I may have been able to change the rocker without removing it but it turned out to be easier.

The bushings were just jammed between the ears.

For information, when I pulled the bushings out I could see the roller bearings.  They looked to be well greased so I left them as they were.

Thanks for your help,
Jim
