Proud of this one

not my work, but I am very proud of it, well, the piece and the person who did it.

I posted this in another thread about teaching kids to scroll, but I thought it might be good to give it its own thread.

This is my boy with his first ever scroll sawed project.  I never did get a pic of the finished piece, after he cut it, he used his dremel tool with a drum sander bit and rounded the edges a bit and then stained the whole piece with a cherry gel stain.
I did the pierce cuts for him, actually we did them, I guided his hands to cut them, but the exterior cuts are all his.  Made from 1/4 inch red oak

He is getting very ambitious, that's a good thing.  This weekend he wants to attempt an intarsia piece.  I told him I would have him cheat his first one, cut it all out of one piece, then shape it and stain or paint it.  Once he can handle that, we will graduate to cutting each piece from different woods.

I'm really looking forward to this.

I have been scrolling for about 15 years and I still have not been game to try Intarsia even though I would really love to try and here is your beautiful son showing me up wanting to try it so soon.  LOL  Love it.  I think you should think about getting that 2nd saw now because he is certainly hooked.  Please congratulate him for me and tell him I think he's got a BIG future in scrolling.

That is cool. I really wish someone had taught me scroll saw when I was a child. I wish someone had taught me the scroll saw 10 years ago. It is such a great hobby. He has a lot to be proud of for this work. I hear he even drew out his sister's name. That is something to show next.
