D Day Doll

I got this one finished today. Cut from 1/4 inch BB with a golden Oak stain and finished with Deft spray lacquer. I made the frame from 100 +/- year old tobacco sticks finished with Tung oil which I recycle into various other products. Pro and con comments are welcome. Also if anyone can ID the wood species in the frame I would appreciate it. I believe that two sides are oak but have no clue as to the other sides.

Nice cutting. I like the way you did the frame.

Tobacco sticks can be made from lots of different woods, but are usually local woods. I'm pretty sure your frame is spalted maple. Maple is very popular in Kentucky.

Nice job Don, I'm not sure what a tobacco stick is, but the frame looks good. We don't grow much tobacco up north here.

Thats a beautiful piece Don. I really like the stain on the BB. The side pieces on the frame sure look like oak, not really sure about the others

excellent job there love it.
The wood looks like it's either spalted Maple or spalted Beech, cant see it too clearly, but I'm favouring the Maple.

Nice piece, Don...golden oak is a favorite stain of mine. Really handy in the 'spray' can.

Are those 'lap' joints in the frame?

GB The joints in the frame are lapped. I have never used spray stain, I will have to look for some.
